Two ways to light the roofline

People come at this from one of two directions. Either they love decorating for the holidays and have gotten tired of the ladder, or they want lighting on the house year round and are done putting anything up and taking it down at all. Those lead to different answers.

Seasonal installation

We put lights up before the holidays and take them down after. You get the display without anybody in your family standing on a ladder on a roof, which is the part worth paying for. If you have lights you already like, we can often work with those.

Permanent trim lighting

This is the option a lot of people up here have not heard of yet. Small fixtures mount permanently along the roofline and soffit, and they essentially disappear during the day. They are controlled from an app, so they can be warm white for everyday accent, colors for holidays, team colors for a game, or off entirely.

The pitch is simple: it goes up once. No storage bins in the garage, no ladder in December, no tangle of strands to test every year. It costs more up front than a season of installation and then it is done, which is why the people who go this route tend to be the ones who plan on staying put.

The real reason to hire this out is the ladder. Roofline work means height, awkward angles, and a lot of getting up and down. A lot of our customers are at a point in life where climbing around a roof for an afternoon is not worth what it saves, and that is a completely reasonable place to land.

The part that makes it electrical work

Any roofline lighting needs power at the roofline, and that is where most of these projects actually live. A lot of homes have no exterior receptacle anywhere near where the lights go, which is how you end up with cords draped down the side of the house to an outlet by the front door, or worse, running through a window.

Putting weather rated receptacles where they are actually needed, on a circuit that can carry the load, is the difference between a display that works and one that trips a breaker every night. It is also what lets you plug in a timer or control instead of walking outside twice a day.

Worth thinking about how it turns on and off, too. A photocell brings things on at dusk on its own, a timer shuts them down at a sensible hour, and permanent systems handle it in the app. Any of those beats remembering.

Seasonal work fills up early, and it fills up in the same three weeks every year. If you want lights up for the holidays, reaching out well ahead of the season is how you get the date you want rather than whatever is left. Permanent trim lighting is not seasonal work and can be installed any time of year, which makes an off season month a good time to do it.
